# The best family hotels in Sorrento

Written 2026-11-03 by Play Day. Where to stay in Sorrento with kids, from a grand hotel on Piazza Tasso with its own elevator down to the port to a cliff hotel in Sant'Agnello with a lift down to a beach club.

Sorrento is a mellow town to bring kids to: gelato in Piazza Tasso, lemon grove tours where they can get right up to the lemons, and boats out past the cliffs and sea caves or over to Capri. The town sits high above the Bay of Naples, so the water is a lift or a staircase away, and there's no wide sandy beach. Swimming is mostly off the wooden platforms of the beach clubs, and a couple of hotels here have their own way down.

## In the center of town

Piazza Tasso is the middle of Sorrento. From the Villa Comunale gardens nearby, a lift takes you down to Marina Piccola, where the ferries, hydrofoils and beach clubs are, and a staircase goes down to Marina Grande, the old fishing village with colorful houses and a small beach where you can have lunch on the water. From a hotel in the center, all of it is a walk.

Area: Piazza Tasso

The Excelsior Vittoria's gardens and pergolas open right onto Piazza Tasso, and the big pool is tucked away inside them. Kids have their own pool next to a grassy playground with room for a game of soccer, and they get child-size bathrobes and coloring books.

A private elevator runs down to the port at Marina Piccola, where the ferries leave for Capri, Naples and Amalfi.

### [Hotel Michelangelo](https://ourplayday.com/places/hotel-michelangelo-sorrento-sorrento)

Area: Corso Italia, by the train station

Hotel Michelangelo is about four minutes on foot from the train station, handy for day trips to Pompeii or Naples, and about 500 meters from Piazza Tasso. The harbor for the Capri ferries is about 10 minutes' walk.

The family suite has two bathrooms and room for four to spread out. There's a pool, plus two hot tubs up on the roof terraces. Musicians play some nights in the bar on the fifth floor.

- Pool: Yes

## Up Via Capo

Via Capo climbs the hillside above the center, and the hotels on it look out over the town and the Gulf of Naples to Vesuvius. Piazza Tasso is about a 10-minute walk down.

### [Grand Hotel Capodimonte](https://ourplayday.com/places/grand-hotel-capodimonte-sorrento)

Area: Via Capo

Five pools cascade down the slope at Capodimonte, which is built into the hillside in several buildings on different levels. Rooms on level 6 open onto a path up to the pools, and from the rest a lift goes up from a long corridor by reception. High chairs come out at breakfast. The concierge books boat trips along the coast.

- Pool: Yes

### [Hotel Bristol](https://ourplayday.com/places/hotel-bristol-sorrento-sorrento)

Area: Via Capo

Up on Via Capo too, Hotel Bristol is about 10 minutes' walk into the center and closer to 15 back up. The pool is on the top floor, and there's a kids' play area outside.

A family room is two rooms next to each other off a small corridor, with a balcony over the bay. At breakfast a chef makes eggs to order, and a lot of the guests are back for another year.

- Pool: Yes

## Sant'Agnello

Sant'Agnello is the small town next door, about a 20-minute walk from central Sorrento. It isn't a tourist town, so the cafés and restaurants mostly serve locals, and its beach clubs are quieter. Below the Marinella terrace there's a tiny beach of volcanic sand.

### [Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento](https://ourplayday.com/places/hotel-mediterraneo-sorrento-sant-agnello)

Area: Sant'Agnello

One local family has run the Mediterraneo for three generations. The hotel's elevator and a stone tunnel come out at the Marinella beach club, where loungers are kept for hotel guests and there's a bar and a restaurant. The hotel hands out a beach bag to take down.

The Family Suite sleeps five, on two levels with a mezzanine, two bathrooms and a big balcony. There are connecting rooms too. A free shuttle runs into Sorrento through the day, and the spa does a little facial and massage for kids.

- Pool: Yes
