# Family hotels near Times Square, and which ones fit four

Written 2026-10-06 by Play Day. Nine family hotels near Times Square with kids: two-bedroom suites, kitchens and a rooftop pool. See which have a crib or connecting rooms.

The one we'd book first for a family of five or six is Kimpton Theta: a two-bedroom suite on the quieter, west side of Times Square. For four people who want one room and a rooftop pool, Margaritaville. For a kitchen and a washer in the apartment, AKA Times Square.

Times Square with kids is easier than people tell you, and louder than the hotel photos suggest. The square itself is a lot at night (lights, crowds, costumed characters), and a room on a low floor facing an avenue will hear it. What makes the stay work is the room, and where the hotel sits within about a ten-minute walk. East toward Rockefeller Center and Radio City is calmer at night. West of Eighth Avenue is calmer still, and the theaters are right there.

Every distance on this page is a straight line from the hotel's map pin, not a walking route. In Midtown that is a fair guide, but the blocks are longer east to west than north to south, and Central Park is further than it looks (roughly a kilometer from most of these).

Short on time? A suite for five or six: Kimpton Theta. Two double beds in one room plus a pool: Margaritaville. A kitchen and in-suite laundry: AKA Times Square. A kitchenette and free breakfast at a chain you know: Residence Inn. The biggest rooms for a group on two floors: the Marriott Marquis.

## How we picked

We kept to hotels within about a kilometer of Times Square (straight line) that have something real for a family: a suite, a kitchenette, connecting rooms, a crib or a pool. Each one says who it doesn't suit.

## Real family rooms and suites

For three, four or more, the room is the whole question. These are the ones with a layout built for a group, so you're not splitting up or sleeping on top of each other.

### [Kimpton Theta New York - Times Square](https://ourplayday.com/places/kimpton-theta-new-york-times-square-new-york)

Block: Eighth Avenue and 49th Street

Why we picked it: The suite for a big family: a two-bedroom fits six and a three-bedroom fits eight, on the quieter west side of Times Square.

The one for a big family. The two-bedroom suite fits up to six, and the three-bedroom fits eight, so grandparents or a second family can be on the same floor. The hotel says it has cribs for babies up to age two, and baby chairs.

It's about 400 meters from Times Square, which puts it at the quiet end of the walk: past the busiest blocks, near the Theater District's restaurants. The park is about a kilometer away and the 50th Street station (C and E) is a few minutes on foot.

Who it doesn't suit: if you want to step out of the lobby into the lights, you'll walk a few blocks to get there. The suites are also the point of the hotel, so a family of three in a standard room has less reason to pick it.

- Connecting rooms: Yes
- Suites: Yes
- Fridge: Yes

### [New York Marriott Marquis](https://ourplayday.com/places/new-york-marriott-marquis-new-york)

Block: Broadway at 45th Street

Why we picked it: The closest hotel here to the middle of Times Square, with a Family Connector suite of two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The one sitting inside Times Square, about 100 meters from the middle of it. It's very large, and the Family Connector suite is the room to ask about: two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a living area, a king in one room and two double beds in the other, plus a sofa bed.

That's the same arrangement as the hotel's Family Double Suite Connector and Family King Suite Connector. The Times Square station is a few minutes' walk, and Rockefeller Center is about 650 meters east.

Who it doesn't suit: anyone who wants quiet. You are in the middle of it, and a big hotel means long lobbies and elevators with a stroller. Ask for a high floor.

- Connecting rooms: Yes
- Suites: Yes

### [Hotel Edison](https://ourplayday.com/places/hotel-edison-new-york)

Block: West 47th Street

Why we picked it: A Family Suite that sleeps six in one room, plus connecting rooms to request, right in the Theater District.

The Family Suite sleeps six in one large room, and the hotel also offers connecting rooms (two queens, a king, interconnected pairs) you can request. The Signature 2 Queens is a plain answer for four.

It's on 47th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue, about 200 meters from Times Square, so the Theater District is out the door. The park is about a kilometer north and east.

Who it doesn't suit: if you want a pool or a kitchen, this isn't it. It has a fridge and the theater block, and that's the pitch.

- Connecting rooms: Yes
- Suites: Yes
- Fridge: Yes

### [The Westin New York at Times Square](https://ourplayday.com/places/the-westin-new-york-at-times-square-new-york)

Block: West 43rd Street

Why we picked it: A two-queen family room with a fridge and cribs on request, on a west-side block calmer than Seventh Avenue.

The Grand Deluxe Family Room has two queen beds in about 350 square feet, with a fridge and microwave, and cribs are free on request. It's a dependable answer for four who want a chain hotel with the basics covered.

It sits on the west side, about 300 meters from Times Square on a block that is calmer than Seventh Avenue. The Times Square station is a short walk, but the park is about 1.3 kilometers away, so most days start on the subway.

Who it doesn't suit: families who want a suite with a door. This is a big room, not two rooms.

- Cribs: Yes
- Connecting rooms: Yes
- Suites: Yes
- Fridge: Yes

## A pool, and the easy room for four

A rooftop pool is a rare thing within a few blocks of Times Square, and it changes what the evening looks like.

### [Margaritaville Resort Times Square](https://ourplayday.com/places/margaritaville-resort-times-square-new-york)

Block: Seventh Avenue at 41st Street

Why we picked it: The one with a rooftop pool, and its Deluxe Room has two double beds, so four people share one room.

The plain answer for four people: the Deluxe Room comes with two double beds, so skip the king rooms. The rooftop pool is heated, the hotel says, year-round. Ask the hotel who can use it and when before you promise anyone a swim.

It's on Seventh Avenue, about 400 meters south of the middle of Times Square, and the Times Square station is right there, the shortest subway walk on this page. The park is about 1.4 kilometers up, so you'll ride or take a long walk.

Who it doesn't suit: anyone who wants a quiet block. It's loud, bright and on an avenue, and the building is built around that mood.

- Connecting rooms: Yes
- Suites: Yes
- Fridge: Yes
- Pool: Yes, heated
- Free breakfast: No

### [Hilton Garden Inn New York/Times Square Central](https://ourplayday.com/places/hilton-garden-inn-new-york-times-square-central-new-york)

Block: West 42nd Street

Why we picked it: The no-fuss two-queen room for four, with a fridge and microwave in every room and connecting rooms you can request.

A no-fuss place for four: the rooms with two queen beds sleep four, each room has a fridge and a microwave, and cribs are free, the hotel says. Connecting rooms can be requested, subject to availability.

It's on 42nd Street, about 300 meters from Times Square and close to Bryant Park and the subway, with the Times Square station a very short walk. The park is more than a kilometer north.

Who it doesn't suit: it has no pool, no free breakfast and no suites, and 42nd Street is a busy one, so ask for a high floor and a room that faces away from it.

- Connecting rooms: Yes
- Pool: No
- Free breakfast: No

## Kitchens and laundry for longer stays

A kitchen is a bigger deal here than anywhere, because three restaurant meals a day for a family adds up fast and is hard on a toddler.

### [AKA Times Square](https://ourplayday.com/places/aka-times-square-new-york)

Block: West 44th Street

Why we picked it: Full kitchens and in-suite washers and dryers make it the pick for a week-long trip, or a stay with a baby.

The apartment pick. There are studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites, all with full kitchens and in-suite washers and dryers, which is a real relief on a week-long trip with a baby.

It's on 44th Street, about 180 meters from the middle of Times Square and 500 meters from Rockefeller Center, close enough to walk everywhere but set on a side street. The park is about a kilometer north.

Who it doesn't suit: a one- or two-night trip. It's built for staying a while, so check the minimum stay before you plan around it.

- Suites: Yes
- Kitchenette: Yes
- Laundry: Yes

### [Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Times Square](https://ourplayday.com/places/residence-inn-new-york-manhattan-times-square-new-york)

Block: Avenue of the Americas at 39th Street

Why we picked it: A kitchenette in every suite and a hot breakfast at a chain you know, on a quieter block at the edge of the walk.

Every suite is a studio or bigger with a fully equipped kitchenette, and a hot breakfast comes with the stay, the hotel says. It's the easy, known quantity for a family that wants to cook a little and not think hard about the room.

It's the furthest one on this page, about 580 meters from Times Square, which is also why it's quieter. The Times Square station is a few blocks away, so the subway is easy. The park is about 1.5 kilometers, so plan on a ride.

Who it doesn't suit: families who want to be walking distance from Broadway after the show. It's a short walk, but it isn't the middle of things.

- Suites: Yes
- Kitchenette: Yes

### [Radio City Apartments](https://ourplayday.com/places/radio-city-apartments-new-york)

Block: West 49th Street

Why we picked it: Kitchenettes and laundry in the building, on a quieter stretch, and the closest hotel here to Central Park.

Studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, each with a kitchenette (a stove top, microwave and fridge), and self-service laundry in the building. The listing says rooms sleep up to four.

It's on 49th Street, about 300 meters from Times Square and 430 meters from Rockefeller Center, and it's the closest one here to the park, about 800 meters. It's on a quieter stretch than the Times Square blocks.

Who it doesn't suit: families who want a front desk, a lobby and amenities like a pool or a bar. It's an older apartment building with basic rooms.

- Kitchenette: Yes
- Laundry: Yes

## Noise, and what to ask for

Times Square stays loud late, and nowhere within a block of it is silent. Ask for a high floor, and a room that faces away from Seventh Avenue or Broadway. Hotels on the 40s side streets and the blocks around 49th Street are quieter than the ones on the avenues.

## Getting around with a stroller

The nearest station is Times Square-42nd Street (1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R and W), and many New York stations mean stairs, so check the elevator on the MTA site before you pick a route. The sidewalks around the square are crowded, so most strollers do better a block or two away. Central Park is about a kilometer from most of these hotels, so it's a bus, a taxi or a long walk.

## Questions

### Is Times Square OK with kids?

Yes, for a visit, and kids tend to love the lights. It's crowded, loud and bright, especially at night, so it works best as a short walk through rather than a place to wait. Sleeping a few blocks off the square makes it easier.

### Which side of Times Square is quieter to stay on?

In our read, the west side (west of Eighth Avenue) and the side streets in the 40s and 50s are calmer than Seventh Avenue and Broadway. Kimpton Theta, the Westin and Radio City Apartments are on that quieter end of the walk. A high floor helps anywhere.

### Where can a family of four or five share a room near Times Square?

Margaritaville's Deluxe Room has two double beds, and the Westin's Grand Deluxe Family Room has two queens. The Marriott Marquis's Family Connector has two bedrooms and a sofa bed, and Hotel Edison's Family Suite sleeps six. Kimpton Theta's two-bedroom suite fits up to six.

### Which Times Square hotels have a kitchen?

AKA Times Square has full kitchens and in-suite washers and dryers. Residence Inn and Radio City Apartments have kitchenettes.

### What is the best hotel near Times Square for Broadway shows with kids?

Hotel Edison and Kimpton Theta are right in the Theater District, so the walk home after a show is short. The Marriott Marquis is the most central of all.

### Is there a hotel near Times Square with a pool?

Margaritaville Resort Times Square has a rooftop pool that the hotel says is heated year-round. Check its rules for kids before you go.
