Vancouver or Victoria with kids?
Written October 2026

Vancouver has a playground on every other corner, and Victoria has goats to meet in a park and seals that swim right up to the docks. Victoria also has Butchart Gardens, whale watching and afternoon tea at the Empress, and Vancouver has Stanley Park and Granville Island. Both are great, and they feel nothing alike.
With a week, base in Vancouver and give Victoria two nights. With three or four days and small kids, Victoria is the easier one, a walkable harbor town. In Vancouver, Stanley Park's seawall is great with a stroller.
The ferry (BC Ferries from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay) takes an hour and a half across the islands, with a play area on board, and it's an outing in itself. Victoria is also drier than Vancouver.
