The best family hotels in Madrid
Written October 2026

Madrid serves churros with hot chocolate at any hour. The city eats late and stays up late, and the plazas are full of families well after dinner. By day there's a royal palace, the Prado, and the Retiro park with its boating lake.
The center is compact, and most of what a family does is within a half-hour walk of Sol. These hotels sit on the Retiro side, by the park and the big museums, or on the Sol and Arenal side, by the palace and the plazas. The aparthotels with kitchens are near Plaza de España, in between.
The Retiro has playgrounds as well as the boating lake.
Two rooms, one door
Dear Hotel Madrid
Gran Vía, by Plaza de España
A family room here is two rooms behind one shared entrance, each with its own bathroom, and the rooftop pool looks out over the city. Gran Vía ends at Plaza de España, which has a big playground, and the Temple of Debod park is just behind it.

Tótem Madrid

Salamanca is Madrid's upscale shopping neighborhood, ten minutes on foot from the Retiro's north gate, with quiet streets and good bakeries. The family room joins a junior suite to a deluxe room through a private door, so the kids get the deluxe room and you get the junior suite.

Hotel Claridge Madrid
Conde de Casal, east of the Retiro
Two connecting doubles, each with a bathroom, make a family room that sleeps up to five. It's past the Retiro's southeast corner, a short walk from the park, and the metro gets you to Sol in ten minutes. It costs a lot less than a hotel in the center.

Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid

This old hotel between the Prado and the Retiro has been restored top to bottom, and meals are served out on a garden terrace. There are connecting rooms and family suites, and it plans for kids better than you'd expect from somewhere this grand, down to game consoles and children's menus.

Apartments with a kitchen
Both are near Plaza de España, at the quieter west end of the center.
Muralto Madrid Princesa
Argüelles, by Plaza de España
Every apartment here has a full kitchen, so a toddler's dinner at six is no problem in a city that eats late. The street is residential, just off Calle Princesa, and Plaza de España and the Temple of Debod are a short walk, with the Royal Palace fifteen minutes.
