The best family hotels in Portland
Written October 2026
Portland has tons of stuff for kids close to downtown: OMSI, the science museum with a real Navy submarine docked on the Willamette, an art museum with free admission for kids, and Lan Su Chinese Garden, which has a free scavenger hunt. Some hotels really go out of their way for kids and bring out toys, games, and even scooters.
Downtown
The Hotel Zags
Cultural District
The garden patio has a kids' playhouse and a sandbox (pretty great to find at a downtown hotel), and the arcade games are free to play. The Gear Shed lends out cruiser bikes, a Nintendo Switch, board games, cornhole and bocce, and PLS on Sixth, the hotel's restaurant, has a kids' dinner menu.
The Zags Suite sleeps four, with a sliding door between the king bedroom and the sleeper sofa in the living room. The Portland Art Museum is about 1,100 feet away.
