The best family hotels in Copenhagen

Where to sleep in Copenhagen with kids, which room to ask for, and the small print on the pools.
Picture it: you've booked the flights, and now every Copenhagen hotel you open has a lovely photo of a very small room. That's the city's big problem for anyone with kids. Standard rooms here are compact, and a lot of the famous design hotels are built for two. So the shortcut is to book the room first and the hotel second: a family room with a sofa bed, two rooms with a door between them, or an apartment with a kitchen.
The other thing to know is that a pool on the listing doesn't always mean a pool for your kid. Several of the best ones set an age limit, or keep kids to certain hours, or charge for entry. Every write-up here says which.
Short on time? A pool and a playroom under one roof: Tivoli Hotel. A heated rooftop pool next to the Central Station: Villa Copenhagen. A 100-meter pool hall your kid can use: CPH Hotel. Two bedrooms and a washer: Charlottehaven or STAY. On a budget: Wakeup's two connecting rooms or a family room at Comfort Hotel Vesterbro.
How we picked
These are hotels we'd send a friend with two kids to. The facts under each one come from the hotel's own site and room pages, and from its Play Day listing. If a fact is missing, we couldn't confirm it (not that the answer is no).
We left out hotels that are lovely but not for kids, including one design hotel on our own listings that turns out to be for guests 15 and over, and a few famous ones whose own pages wouldn't tell us enough to recommend a room. The playgrounds we mention are in our Copenhagen playground guide.
On the harbour at Kalvebod Brygge
A stretch of new buildings along the water, south of the Central Station, with Islands Brygge's harbour bath across the bridge. Tivoli is a walk, not a stroll, but both hotels have big indoor pools.
Tivoli Hotel

The most kid-built hotel in Copenhagen. There's a large indoor pool that the hotel says outright is for kids, a Rasmus Klump playroom on the second floor (a ball wall, a palm island to jump on and a play kitchen for pancakes), and kids' movies shown every evening from the theater stage. After breakfast, the kids go play and you get a second coffee.
Book the room by name. The Family Room sleeps four in a big double and a sofa bed, the Deluxe King with Junior Bed adds a fold-out bed for one kid, and for five there's a Deluxe Interconnecting pair with two big doubles and a junior bed. Every family room has a mini fridge.
The catch is the name. It's not in Tivoli, and it's about a 15-minute walk to the gardens and the station.

Scandic Spectrum
Kalvebod Brygge
A big hotel on the water with a 25-meter heated pool in its spa, less than a kilometer from the Central Station, with Tivoli and the Glyptotek close by.
Now the small print. The spa is for guests 16 and up most of the time. Kids five and older who are out of diapers get in during family wellness sessions on weekends and in the holidays, which you book ahead. If swimming is the whole point, Tivoli Hotel down the road is the easier bet.
The Standard Family Four sleeps four, with a sofa bed for the kids.

By the Central Station and Tivoli
Trains from the airport pull into the Central Station, and Tivoli is across the street, so this is the easy choice for a short trip. The streets right behind the station are busy and a little scruffy, but everything here is a few minutes' walk from the gardens.
Villa Copenhagen
Vesterbro
The splurge: a grand hotel in the old central post office, next to the station, with a heated outdoor pool on the roof that stays open all year. Kids are welcome in the pool in the daytime and early evening, so plan the swim before dinner.
It has connecting rooms, junior suites and an attic suite, and the hotel says those are the ones to book with kids. Ask reservations about a crib, since the site doesn't say.

CPH Hotel

A plain, practical hotel inside DGI Byen, the sports center 50 meters from the Central Station, and the reason to book it is downstairs. Guests get free entry to the swim center, a huge round pool hall with a low, warm pool for kids, a climbing and diving pool and a pool for babies. There's bowling too.
The rooms are simple, and that's fine, because you'll be in the water. Kødbyen, the old meatpacking district full of places to eat, is right behind it.
Scandic Copenhagen
Vesterbro
A big tower hotel on the lakes, a few minutes' walk from the Central Station and Vesterport, with a playroom on the ground floor and a kids' menu in the restaurant. The Standard Family Four sleeps four.
It has an underground car park, which is rare in the center if you're driving in. Tivoli is a short walk.
Imperial Hotel

A classic hotel a minute from Vesterport station and a short walk from Tivoli, renovated in 2025, and good at the small stuff: a kids' bag with a drawing set at check-in, high chairs at breakfast and a baby cot brought to the room if you ask.
The family room sleeps four in a very big double and a sofa bed for two. With older kids, the connecting rooms sleep four or six, with a double and two single beds in the smaller pair.
Absalon Hotel
Vesterbro
A hotel a few minutes from the Central Station whose family rooms are its biggest standard rooms: a big double and a sofa bed for two kids under 12, with a fridge. The Junior Suite adds more space if one kid can sleep on a sofa bed.
The rooms are compact for four, so it suits a short stay better than a week.
Comfort Hotel Vesterbro
Vesterbro
The budget pick on Vesterbrogade, five minutes from the station, with Tivoli a walk up the street. Family rooms put a big double and sofa beds in 17 to 20 square meters, and there are XXL rooms that sleep up to eight, which is a lifesaver if you're traveling with grandparents. The breakfast buffet has gluten-free, vegan and lactose-free options.
Wakeup Copenhagen Bernstorffsgade
Vesterbro
The other budget pick, next to Tivoli and the Central Station. The rooms are small, so book Wakeup Family: two rooms with a connecting door, each with its own double bed and bathroom. That's two bathrooms for four people, which at this price is honestly the whole reason.
Nyhavn and the harbour
Stay here for the boats, the canal tours from Nyhavn and the walk to Amalienborg and the King's Garden. No pools to speak of, but you wake up on the water.
Copenhagen Admiral Hotel

A huge old granary on the harbour between Nyhavn and Amalienborg (the hotel likes to say the King is its nearest neighbour). The Loft Deluxe rooms sleep two adults and two kids, there are connecting rooms, and under-threes can share your bed in a double.
There's an indoor pool, but entry costs extra unless you're in a suite, and kids have to be three or older with an adult. The hotel can arrange a sitter if you ask before you arrive, and it rents baby gear through a partner, which saves you packing the travel cot.

Copenhagen Strand

A quiet hotel in an 1869 warehouse on the harbour, a couple of minutes from Nyhavn. The room to book is Connecting: two rooms next to each other, with a TV and a bathroom in each, so the kids get their own space and you get yours. Some rooms have window seats looking out over the water.
They lend baby cots. The standard rooms are small, so don't try four in one.
Apartments with a kitchen
For a week, or for anyone whose kids eat dinner at five, an apartment beats a hotel room. These are a metro or bus ride from the center, and each one sits close to a park or the water.
Charlottehaven
Østerbro
The one we'd book for a longer stay. The Family Two-Bed apartments have two real bedrooms, a full kitchen with a dishwasher and a big fridge-freezer, a washer-dryer and a large balcony, and guests get the health club's pool, where kids over five can swim with an adult. You can hire a pram too.
It's in a quiet part of Østerbro, a bus ride from the center, with Fælledparken's Tower Playground and Traffic Playground within reach.
STAY Copenhagen
Islands Brygge
Big design apartments on Islands Brygge, from one to four bedrooms, with full kitchens, washing machines and a rooftop terrace. Amager Fælled, the big wild common, is right next door for the kid who needs to run before bed.
The site doesn't say how many each apartment sleeps or whether there's a crib, so ask before you book.
Zoku Copenhagen
Amager
Loft rooms with full kitchens, two minutes from the DR Byen metro stop. The room that works with kids is the Loft XXL, which sleeps four with a second bedroom and a second bathroom. The other lofts are built for one or two.
The shared rooftop has a restaurant and places to hang out, which helps on a rainy evening.
Pools, and who can use them
Tivoli Hotel's indoor pool is the one built with kids in mind. CPH Hotel guests get the DGI Byen swim center, with a warm shallow pool for small kids and one for babies. Villa Copenhagen's rooftop pool takes kids in the daytime and early evening. Charlottehaven lets kids over five swim with an adult. Scandic Spectrum's pool is 16 and up except in family sessions for kids five and older. The Admiral charges for pool entry unless you're in a suite, and kids need to be three.
No pool at the hotel? The harbour baths at Islands Brygge and Fisketorvet are free in summer, and so is the beach at Amager Strandpark.
Getting in from the airport
Trains from the airport run straight to the Central Station, which puts every hotel in the station section a short walk away. The metro runs from the airport to Kongens Nytorv, the closest stop for Nyhavn and the harbour hotels. Every metro station has a lift, so the stroller comes too.

Where should we stay in Copenhagen with kids?
By the Central Station and Tivoli for a short trip, since the airport train comes straight in and Tivoli is across the street. By Nyhavn for the harbour and the canal boats. In an apartment in Østerbro or Islands Brygge for a week, near the big parks and the water.
