Kid-friendly brunch in San Diego
Written October 2026

The best brunch tables in San Diego sit next to a beach or a lawn, so whoever finishes first has somewhere to go.
Some are breakfast places open every day and some only do brunch on weekends.
On the sand
Close enough to the water that someone will be sandy by the end.
Kono's Cafe
Pacific Beach
A walk-up counter on the boardwalk at Crystal Pier, where the breakfast burritos are numbered one to five and get bigger as they go.
Most people carry their food to the wooden deck across the path and eat looking at the ocean. The sand is right there for anyone who's finished.
A number one is plenty to split.

OB Surf Lodge
Ocean Beach
A tribute to 1960s Southern California surf culture, with boards hanging from the ceiling, a dog-friendly patio and biscuits the size of a kid's fist.
Brunch is the menu all day, every day, and the beach is at the end of the block.

Dockside 1953
Mission Bay
At the Bahia resort, so the beach out front is the calm bay side with no waves to speak of. The weekend brunches are often themed, the patio has fire pits, and Belmont Park is a short walk across the peninsula.

Room to run
Each of these has a lawn or a playground between the table and the car.
Farmer & The Seahorse
Torrey Pines
A big lawn with cornhole and bocce, and live music on weekends, up on the mesa across from Torrey Pines Golf Course.
Kids get the grass and the grown-ups get to finish their coffee. It's the easiest table on this list to linger at.

Gravity Heights
Mission Valley
A brewpub with a big outdoor beer garden, built with room for kids (and dogs) to spread out. Brunch is on weekends, and Mission Valley is a quick drive from most of the city.

Breakfast Republic
Liberty Station
Oreo pancakes and s'mores French toast, which tells you who the menu is really for.
NTC Park is right there, with big lawns and a playground, and the USS Recruit (a landlocked Navy training ship) to look at on the way.

Pancakes and waffles
For the kid whose only brunch question is syrup.
Richard Walker's Pancake House
Marina District
The apple pancake is the famous one: oven-baked with Granny Smiths and a cinnamon glaze, made to order and worth the extra minutes.
It's on the ground floor of a tower a few blocks from Seaport Village, handy for a waterfront walk after.

The Waffle Spot
Mission Valley
A Hotel Circle diner since 1996, with a giant waffle statue named Sir Wafflelot by the door. Churro waffles, chocolate chip waffles, free parking and tables big enough for the grandparents too.

- Yes

Good Measure
North Park
This used to be Atypical Waffle, and the waffles stayed, now alongside burritos, bowls and guest chefs.
You order at the counter and pick a seat on the patio, so nobody's waiting on a server with a hungry toddler.

Snooze
Hillcrest
The pancake flight (three different pancakes on one plate) settles the what-do-you-want debate, and there's a new pancake of the week.
On weekends the waitlist is in the Snooze app, so you can join it from home.

The Mission
North Park
It has murals, a roomy patio and tables that turn over fast. The cinnamon roll pancake and the French toast are the kid orders.

Cafe Coyote
Old Town
Breakfast every day in Old Town, with tortillas made by hand where kids can watch and papel picado strung over the patio. The machaca burrito is the order.

Up the coast
Worth the drive north, or an easy stop on the way to LEGOLAND.
Viewpoint Brewing Co.
Del Mar
A brewery on the San Dieguito Lagoon with a sandy patio, lawn games, swinging chairs and a short nature trail out back.
The trail and the birds on the lagoon hold kids longer than the menu does.

Park 101
Carlsbad Village
A beach smokehouse with cornhole and a giant Connect 4 on the ground floor and fire pits on the roof. Brunch runs every day, kids have their own menu, and the village and the beach are both a short walk.
Beach Break Cafe
Oceanside
A surf-themed diner on Coast Highway that does breakfast and nothing else, from frosted coffee cake to banana crunch French toast. There's no bar, and there's a patio out front.
