Magic Kingdom vs. Animal Kingdom with toddlers and preschoolers
Written October 2026
Magic Kingdom is the cartoon park, with Dumbo and Winnie the Pooh, and Animal Kingdom has real giraffes from the back of a safari truck.
With one day and a toddler or preschooler, we'd go to Magic Kingdom for Fantasyland alone. Animal Kingdom suits the kid who stops at every dog on the street, and it's easier to do in a morning (worth a lot with a napper).
Magic Kingdom is the first Disney day
Magic Kingdom Park
Magic Kingdom
This park has the most rides a small child can do without a height line, and the castle is at the end of every street. Fantasyland is a toddler park inside the park. Dumbo, "it's a small world", Peter Pan's Flight, the Winnie the Pooh ride, Under the Sea and the carousel have no height limit, and the Jungle Cruise, the PeopleMover and the railroad make good sit-down breaks. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has a height line (38 inches), and Tomorrowland Speedway takes a kid from 32 inches riding with you.
Of the four parks, this one makes the biggest day, with a parade and then fireworks in the evening. The Baby Care Center is on Main Street, and there's a quiet corner behind the castle.

Animal Kingdom
The big ride here for small kids is Kilimanjaro Safaris, an open truck past giraffes, elephants and lions, with no height requirement. In Pandora, Na'vi River Journey is a slow boat through a glowing forest that takes any height, and the Boneyard is a dinosaur dig and play area for burning off energy. Gorilla Falls and the Maharajah Jungle Trek are walks past gorillas and tigers at a stroller's pace.
Flight of Passage, the headline Pandora ride, is 44 inches, and Dinosaur is 40, so most preschoolers sit those out. The park has a lot of shade and closes earlier than the others, and a toddler can finish it before lunch.

Under two
Either park works for a kid under two. Animal Kingdom's shorter day and all that shade make it the gentler of the two.
Height lines
Space Mountain, at Magic Kingdom, is 44 inches, and nearly everything else a toddler would want has no height line. With Rider Switch, one adult waits with the small kid while the other rides, then they swap without getting back in line, so a tall sibling still gets the mountain.
Naps
If you're staying close to Magic Kingdom (Disney's Contemporary Resort and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort are a walk or a monorail away), you can leave around one and come back later. Animal Kingdom fits in a morning, with the hotel pool for the afternoon.
Both parks have a Baby Care Center with changing tables, nursing rooms and a quiet place to feed, and strollers go everywhere except inside the rides.
