The best family resorts in Cancun and the Riviera Maya
Written October 2026
Which all-inclusive to book with kids, which part of the coast to base on, and who each resort suits and who it doesn't.
Book an all-inclusive. With kids on this coast it's the easy answer: food, drinks and a kids club are covered, so you aren't doing the sums at every snack. What you're really choosing is the kind of week: a water park that never closes, a suite with a door between you and the kids, a club that takes babies, or a base for the Xcaret parks.
All ten are all-inclusive, and every one has a kids club in our listings. Past that they split four ways: water parks, suites, clubs for every age, and the resorts south of Cancun that are a real transfer from the airport.
Short on time? A water park the size of a small theme park: Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun. Clubs from babies to teens: Club Med Cancun Yucatan. A two-bedroom suite with the kids' room closed off: Paradisus Cancun. The Xcaret parks included: Hotel Xcaret Mexico.
How we picked
These are resorts we'd send a friend with kids to. Every one is in our directory with its facts, and every distance on the page is a straight line from the coordinates we hold, not a drive. Cancun's Hotel Zone is one long strip, so the straight line understates the road.
A word on the sea. The Hotel Zone is shaped like a 7. The short stretch near downtown faces Bahía de Mujeres, where Isla Mujeres shelters the beaches and the waves are soft. The long stretch south faces the open Caribbean, and its beaches, Playa Delfines included, get strong waves. Ask any resort how it handles its beach, and look at its pools if the water matters to you.
All-inclusive resorts with a water park
Pick one of these if the kids will live in the water. The slides and lazy rivers are on the property and included, so a rainy-looking morning or a nap schedule doesn't cost you the day.
Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun
Puerto Morelos
Why we picked it: The water park is the draw: more than a dozen slides and two lazy rivers, with splash zones for the smaller kids.
Built around its water park: more than a dozen slides, two lazy rivers and splash zones for the smaller kids, all on the property. There are two supervised kids clubs for ages 4 to 12 and a teens' area for 13 to 17, plus family suites and suites with swim-up pools.
It's about 11 km straight line south of Cancun airport, on the highway toward Playa del Carmen, which puts it well outside the Hotel Zone. It's a big resort (over a thousand rooms), so expect distances between your room, the pools and the restaurants.
It doesn't suit a family after a quiet, small place, or anyone who wants to wander out to a town for dinner.
Marriott Cancun All Inclusive Resort
Hotel Zone, Km 14.5
Why we picked it: A smaller, calmer water park than Royalton's, with a kids club for ages 4 to 12 right beside it.
A smaller, calmer water park than Royalton's: a kids' splash area, a lazy river and two slides, next to CAMP Club, a free kids club for ages 4 to 12 with a climbing wall and zipline outdoors. The big slides have a height minimum, so smaller kids stay in the splash area.
It sits directly on the beach, about 12 km straight line from the airport. Suites are built around a king bedroom and a living area, and a room tops out at four people, so a family of five needs two rooms.
It doesn't suit a group of five or more who want to share one room.

Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf and Spa Resort
Costa Mujeres
Why we picked it: The pick for a bigger family: the Family Junior Suite is two connected suites behind one door.
The one for a bigger family. The Family Junior Suite is two connected suites, each with its own terrace and hot tub, so two sets of beds and two living areas sit behind one door. The Explorer's Club takes ages 3 to 12 and has its own mini water park, and the resort has a water park with slides too.
Costa Mujeres is the quiet north end of the mainland, about 26 km straight line from the airport and 12 km from downtown Cancun, with Isla Mujeres across the water. Beaches here are a 1-minute walk from the resort, per its Booking.com listing.
It doesn't suit a family that wants nightlife or restaurants outside the resort. The Preferred Club perks, like the lazy river, are for Preferred Club guests.
Suites with room to spread out
Look here if bedtime is the problem. A suite where the kids sleep behind a door gets you your evenings back.
Paradisus Cancun
Hotel Zone, Km 16.5
Why we picked it: The Family Concierge Two Bedroom Suite gives the kids their own room, and there's a nursery for ages 1 to 4.
The Family Concierge Two Bedroom Suite is the reason. You get a king bedroom, the kids get their own room with two double beds, and the Family Concierge level adds its own lounge for check-in, a private beach area and a restaurant for breakfast. Kidsdom, the kids club, takes ages 4 to 12, and there's a free nursery and play area for ages 1 to 4.
It's about 12 km straight line from the airport, toward the south end of the Hotel Zone, so the beach faces the open Caribbean.
It doesn't suit a family that won't book the Family Concierge level: the perks above belong to it, not to the standard rooms.
Hard Rock Hotel Cancun
Hotel Zone, Km 14
Why we picked it: Two-bedroom family rooms that sleep five or six, plus a kids club with its own pool, slide and trampoline.
Two-bedroom family rooms are the point: the Deluxe Family Lagoon View sleeps up to five and the Rock Suite Ocean View up to six, with only one infant counted in a room of four. The Rockstar Kids Club takes ages 4 to 12 and has its own pool with a slide and a trampoline, a Parents and Baby Play Club covers 18 months to 3, and teens get their own space.
It's about 12 km straight line from the airport, on the open-Caribbean stretch of the Hotel Zone. The main pool overlooks the beach, with a children's wading pool beside it.
It doesn't suit a family that wants a quiet, low-key resort: the pool bars and the music are part of the place.
Hyatt Ziva Cancun
Punta Cancun
Why we picked it: The Punta Cancun option, close to restaurants and nightlife, with a kids club that has a treehouse and a water area.
The one at the bend of the Hotel Zone, in Punta Cancun. Suites hold up to four, with up to three of them kids, and every one has a private balcony. The KidZ Club takes ages 4 to 12 and has a treehouse, a pool and a water area, with a teen game room beside it.
It's about 18 km straight line from the airport and close to the restaurants and nightlife of Punta Cancun, if you want a night out of the resort.
It doesn't suit a family with young kids that wants a swim-up room: those rooms are for guests 13 and older. And with a standard suite capped at four, a family of five needs two rooms.

Clubs for every age
Two resorts that run real programs, from the baby end up to teens, for the family where the kids are spread across ages.
Club Med Cancun Yucatan
Punta Nizuc, south end of the Hotel Zone
Why we picked it: The only resort here that takes babies, with clubs that step up through every age to teens.
The only one on the page that takes babies: Baby Club Med covers 4 to 23 months, Petit Club Med 2 to 3 years, Mini Club Med 4 to 10, then Chill Pass for the older kids and teens. Mini Club kids can try a flying trapeze from age 4, sailing from 6 and snorkeling from 8. The Mayan-themed kids' club sits next to the Aguamarina family area, and the resort has three beaches and the reef just offshore.
It's about 10 km straight line from the airport, at the quiet far end of the Hotel Zone. Club Med sells its stays itself, so book through its own site.
It doesn't suit a family that wants a regular resort with a regular pool day: the activities are the program, and the clubs run on their own days and schedules.
Dreams Sands Cancun Resort and Spa
Hotel Zone, Km 8.5
Why we picked it: The most hands-on kids program of the Dreams resorts here, with a teen club and an ocean trampoline on the beach.
The most hands-on kids program of the Dreams resorts here. The Explorer's Club takes ages 3 to 12 with beach movies, sandcastle contests and a weekly campout, staffed by Red Cross-certified staff, and the Core Zone is the teen club for 13 to 17. The beach has an ocean trampoline for kids and kayaks for you.
It's about 17 km straight line from the airport, on the short stretch of the Hotel Zone near Punta Cancun. Booking.com lists four pools and a private beach area.
It doesn't suit a family that wants a suite with a separate kids' room: it's a standard resort layout, so check the room type with the hotel.
South of Cancun, on the Riviera Maya
These two are a real transfer from the Cancun airport (straight line is roughly 56 km to Xcaret and 79 km to Akumal, and the road is longer). Choose them on purpose: you're basing on the Riviera Maya, not the Hotel Zone, and the airport ride is part of the trip.
Hotel Xcaret Mexico
Playa del Carmen
Why we picked it: Chosen for the Xcaret group's parks: the stay covers them, with transport, so it works as a base for park days.
A resort that comes with the Xcaret parks: the All-Fun Inclusive stay covers the Xcaret group's parks, including Xcaret, Xel-Ha and Xplor, with transport to them. At the hotel, Xiquillos is the kids club, Xiipal is a family club with a pool and air hockey, and Casa Viento is the building families gravitate to for being near the pool, the kids club and the family club.
Plan around the parks: the resort is a base for them, so the more days you spend in the parks, the more it earns its place. It's about 56 km straight line from Cancun airport.
It doesn't suit a family that just wants a beach week and no outings, since the parks are what the stay is built around.

Grand Palladium Kantenah Resort and Spa
Akumal
Why we picked it: The southernmost base here, with a Baby Club for ages 1 to 3 and a kids' water park on an 800 m private beach.
A big all-inclusive on an 800 m private beach with a Baby Club for ages 1 to 3, the El Ranchito mini club for 4 to 12, a teens' club and a kids' water park. The Family Selection option adds a private pool, a free water park and beachfront access.
It's about 79 km straight line from Cancun airport, in Akumal, which is as far south as this page goes. The resort shares its grounds with Grand Palladium Colonial, and only part of the complex's pools are on the Kantenah side.
It doesn't suit a short trip, because the transfer takes a big bite out of it.
Hotel Zone or the Riviera Maya
The Hotel Zone is the shorter transfer and the easier choice for a first trip with kids. The Riviera Maya (Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Akumal) means more driving at both ends of the trip, and it pays off when the parks or the cenotes and ruins are the plan. Royalton Splash sits between the two, on the highway just south of Cancun.
Check the age rules
Kids club age limits and room capacities decide who fits where: a four-person cap, a swim-up room for guests 13 and over, a club that starts at 3 or at 4. Check them against your kids' actual ages before you book.
Questions
Should you stay at an all-inclusive in Cancun with kids?
Yes, for most families. Food, drinks and a kids club are covered, and every resort on this page has a kids club. The exception is a trip built around eating out in Playa del Carmen or Puerto Morelos town, where you'd pay twice.
What is the best area to stay in Cancun with kids?
The Hotel Zone, for the shortest transfer and the most resorts to choose from. Costa Mujeres, where Dreams Playa Mujeres sits, is quieter and further from everything. South of Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Akumal are the Riviera Maya, a better base if you're doing the parks.
Which Cancun resorts have a water park?
Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun is built around one, with more than a dozen slides and two lazy rivers. Marriott Cancun has a smaller one with a lazy river and two slides, and Dreams Playa Mujeres has a water park and a mini water park at its kids club.
Which Cancun resort is best with a toddler?
Club Med Cancun Yucatan takes babies from 4 months and has a club for ages 2 to 3. Paradisus Cancun has a free nursery for ages 1 to 4, Hard Rock has a play club for 18 months to 3, and Grand Palladium Kantenah has a Baby Club for ages 1 to 3.
Which Cancun resorts have a two-bedroom suite for a family?
Paradisus Cancun has the Family Concierge Two Bedroom Suite, Hard Rock Hotel Cancun has two-bedroom family rooms for five and six, and Dreams Playa Mujeres has Family Junior Suites made of two connected suites.
Is it worth staying near Xcaret with kids?
If you plan several park days, yes. Hotel Xcaret Mexico includes the Xcaret group's parks and the transport to them. If you want one park day and a beach week, a Hotel Zone resort is the shorter trip.
