The best family hotels in Amsterdam
Written October 2026
Where to sleep in Amsterdam with kids, which room to ask for, and which hotels have a pool.
Picture it: a canal-house hotel with a gorgeous lobby, and a room the size of a closet with a staircase to get to it. Amsterdam is lovely and tight, so for anyone with kids the shortcut is to book the room first and the hotel second: a suite, two rooms that connect, or somewhere with a kitchenette.
The other thing is the neighbourhood. The center is walkable, but the museum quarter by Vondelpark is easier on little legs, and the east side is close to the zoo. Each section says which part of town you're in.
Short on time? A pool and a museum square: Mandarin Oriental. Connecting rooms and cribs by the station: Kimpton De Witt. A kitchenette by the park: Catalonia Vondel. A boat to sleep on: The July.
How we picked
These are hotels we'd send a friend with two kids to. The facts under each one come from its Play Day listing. If a fact is missing, we couldn't confirm it (not that the answer is no).
Ask the hotel about cribs and extra beds before you book. It's a quick email and it settles the room.
By Centraal and the old center
The airport train comes straight in, the free ferries to Noord leave from behind the station, and the old canal streets are a walk. It's busy, and it's the easy base for a short trip.
Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam
Nieuwmarkt
The one with the most family boxes ticked: cribs, connecting rooms and suites are all listed. Book a connecting pair if you have two kids, or a suite if you want a living room to retreat to after bedtime.
It's a short walk to Centraal, so the airport train and the ferries are easy.

Jordaan and the western canals
The Jordaan is the part of Amsterdam with narrow streets, cafés and a good playground. It's quieter than the center, and the Anne Frank House and Westerpark are close.
Pulitzer Amsterdam
Jordaan
A hotel built from a row of canal houses, which means no two rooms are alike. Connecting rooms and suites are listed, and those are the ones to ask for.

Museum quarter and Vondelpark
The easiest part of town for kids. Vondelpark is the big green lung, and the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk's Family Lab are on one square.
Mandarin Oriental, Amsterdam
Museum quarter
The luxury pick, right on the museum square. A pool and connecting rooms are both listed, so it works for a family that wants space and a swim.
The museums are on your doorstep and Vondelpark is a few minutes away.

A hotel on the west side of the city, near the park. The listing has no family facts yet, so email them about room types and extra beds first.
Pools, and who can use them

Getting in from the airport
Trains from Schiphol run straight to Amsterdam Centraal, which puts the old-center hotels a short walk away. From there, trams cover the museum quarter and the Amstel. The ferries behind the station to Amsterdam Noord are free.
