The very best playgrounds in Zurich
Written October 2026
A lakeside meadow, a playground near the zoo and a handful of neighbourhood ones, sorted by where you're likely to be.

The best playground to start with in Zurich is Blatterwiese Playground, on the lake in the Zürichhorn park, and the best one to pair with a bigger outing is Siriuswiese Playground, about 1.7 km from Zoo Zürich. For the everyday neighbourhood kind, Fritschiwiese and Kollerwiese in Kreis 3 are the ones to know.
Picture it: you've done the old town, you've looked at the lake from the Quaibrücke, and somebody in the stroller has had enough of being looked at. Zurich is tidy and spread across hills, and its playgrounds are the same: mostly small, mostly local, and easiest to find when you're already nearby. That's what this page is for.
Short on time? Take the lake: Blatterwiese in the morning, then a walk through the Zürichhorn park. If it's a zoo day, Siriuswiese is the one to add.
How we picked
These are the playgrounds in the Play Day directory for Zurich, ordered by neighbourhood and by how easily they slot into a day out. The facts under a place come from its listing, with the date it was confirmed.
Not one of these listings has a confirmed restroom, fence or water play answer yet, so this page doesn't claim any. If a fact is missing, we couldn't confirm it either way (not that the answer is no).
Zürichhorn and the lake
The east shore of the lake is where Zurich does its lazy afternoons, and the playground sits inside it.
Blatterwiese Playground
Zürichhorn
This is the one worth choosing over whatever playground is nearest your hotel, because of where it sits: on the Blatterwiese, the big lawn in the Zürichhorn park, with the lake a few steps away. A kid here climbs and slides, and then goes to find the water.
The park is wide and open, so there is room to run between the equipment and the shore, and a flat promenade for a stroller. Nothing in the listing narrows down ages, but a lawn like this works for toddlers who are still toddling and for older kids who want space.
The Botanical Garden UZH is listed about 750 metres away, a walk of ten minutes or so, which makes an easy second stop.
Wiedikon and the west
Kreis 3 is a residential neighbourhood south of the main station, and its playgrounds are the kind locals use every day. Albisrieden is a tram ride farther west.
Fritschiwiese Playground
Wiedikon
Fritschiwiese is a meadow playground in Kreis 3, and it earns its place by being the one you can walk to if you are staying around Wiedikon. It is the local kind, in a residential part of town where the playgrounds are part of daily life.
Kollerwiese is about a kilometre away, so the two make a pleasant loop with a decision at the end: which of them wins. Nothing in the listing confirms equipment, ages or a restroom, so go expecting a neighbourhood playground on grass and not a full day out.
It suits a short stop before dinner, or the hour when somebody in the group needs to run and the museums are done.
Kollerwiese Playground
Wiedikon
Kollerwiese sits on Wiedingstrasse, on another of Kreis 3's meadows. The reason to pick it is Fritschiwiese: the two are about a kilometre apart, so you can try both in one walk and settle on the one your kids stay at longest.
It is a local spot, the sort of playground the neighbourhood uses on weekday afternoons, and it works the same way for visitors: you turn up, the kids find the equipment, you sit down. The listing doesn't confirm ages, shade or a restroom, so we won't claim any.
If you are staying near the old town, it is the closest playground in this guide to Glockenhof, about 1.4 km away.
GZ Bachwiesen Playground
Albisrieden
The playground at GZ Bachwiesen belongs to one of the city's Gemeinschaftszentren, the neighbourhood community centres. It is in Albisrieden, a residential corner of western Zurich that most visitors never see, which is exactly why it is worth knowing about if you have ended up out that way.
It is a local playground in a local setting. The listing doesn't confirm equipment, ages or facilities, so there is no more to say than that, and no promise of a café or museum next door: nothing else in the directory is within a short walk.
It makes sense only if Albisrieden is where you are; otherwise Fritschiwiese, about 2 km east, is the closer choice.
Zürichberg, Unterstrass and Oerlikon
North of the center, up the hill and across the tracks. Siriuswiese is the one most likely to fit into a visit.
Siriuswiese Playground
Fluntern
Siriuswiese is the playground to choose when the day also includes the zoo. It is on a hillside meadow on Hochstrasse, up on the Zürichberg, a calm green spot in a part of town with a lot of trees and not much traffic.
Zoo Zürich is about 1.7 km away, so it is more of a walk than a hop, and a stroller will make it a slow one. The Natural History Museum UZH is listed about 700 metres from the playground, which gives you something dry to do if the sky changes its mind.
The listing doesn't confirm ages or facilities. Think of it as a meadow playground to end a morning of animals on.

Zoo Zürich
Fluntern
Not a playground, but it earns a place here as the anchor for the Zürichberg: a big zoo with a rainforest hall, the Masoala, which is warm and green even in winter. For most kids it is a whole morning, and for some it is the whole day.
It is the reason to be on this side of the city, and the playgrounds follow from it. Siriuswiese is about 1.7 km from the zoo, so you can finish at the meadow and let everyone run off what the animals started.
The Dolder Grand, the one hotel in this guide on the hill, is about 1.3 km away.
GZ Buchegg Playground
Unterstrass
The playground at GZ Buchegg is at the community centre on Hofwiesenstrasse, in Unterstrass, a residential stretch between the Zürichberg and Oerlikon. It earns its place as the practical one if you are staying north of the main station and want a playground you can reach without planning.
It is a neighbourhood playground, and the listing doesn't confirm equipment, ages or a restroom. What it does have nearby is The Artisan, a café about 750 metres away, which is the closest listed place to get a coffee while the kids wear themselves out.
Föhrenwald, the woodland playground, is a little under a kilometre from here if you want a change of scenery.
Föhrenwald Playground
Oerlikon
Föhrenwald is the one playground in this guide set among trees: pine woods at the edge of Oerlikon, a change of mood after the lawns and meadows. A kid here gets shade and the smell of pines, and a woodland edge to wander along.
The listing doesn't give equipment or ages, so we'd call it a woodland playground and leave the rest to you. It suits a walk that happens to have a playground in it, more than a trip made for the playground alone.
tibits Oerlikon, a vegetarian restaurant, is listed about 530 metres away, and GZ Buchegg is under a kilometre off if you want to compare.
Where to stay near these playgrounds
Baur au Lac and Glockenhof sit in the middle of town, about 1.6 km from Blatterwiese and 1.4 to 1.5 km from Kollerwiese. Up on the hill, the Dolder Grand is about 1.3 km from Zoo Zürich, while MEININGER Zurich Greencity is the farther one, around 2.8 km from Blatterwiese.
Baur au Lac
Old town and lake
The payoff is the lake. Blatterwiese is about 1.6 km along the east shore, a walk you can do after breakfast with a stroller, and Kollerwiese in Kreis 3 is about 1.5 km the other way.
Book it if you want the old town and the water right outside and don't mind paying for the setting. The listing doesn't confirm a pool, cribs or suites, so ask when you book.

Glockenhof Zurich
Old town
The most central of the four, and the closest to Kollerwiese, about 1.4 km away. Siriuswiese is about 1.5 km up the hill, so the zoo side of town is reachable without a long ride.
The room to book is a suite. The listing says Glockenhof has them, which gives a group more space than a standard room, with the old town and the lake on your doorstep.
- Suites
- Yes

The Dolder Grand
Dolder, Zürichberg
If the plan is built around Siriuswiese and the zoo, this is the hotel that fits it. Zoo Zürich is about 1.3 km away and Siriuswiese about 1.8 km, all on the wooded hill.
The listing says there is a kids club, which is the thing to ask about when you book. It is the splurge of the four, and the center is a ride down the hill.
MEININGER Zurich Greencity
Greencity
The practical one, south of the center. It is the farthest from the playgrounds here, about 2.8 km from Blatterwiese and 3 km from Kollerwiese, so expect a tram for each.
The listing says it has cribs, which matters if one of you is small. Book it when the playgrounds are a side note and the room is the point.
- Cribs
- Yes
Staying near them
Hotels and playgrounds are spread out in Zurich, so the distances above are worth a glance before you book. For more on the center, read A weekend in Zurich.
Rainy days
Zurich rains often enough that you should have a plan. The listed indoor picks are Mühlerama (a mill museum), the Natural History Museum UZH, the FIFA Museum, the Tram Museum Zürich and Kulturama Museum of Human Evolution. The Botanical Garden UZH has greenhouses for a drizzle.
