The best family hotels in Athens
Written October 2026
Where to sleep in Athens with kids, which neighbourhood to pick and which room to ask for.
Picture it: it's the middle of a July afternoon, the kids have climbed a hill of white marble, and nobody wants to look at one more column. What you want is a door you can close and, if you're lucky, a pool. That's the real question in Athens, and it's why where you sleep matters more here than in most cities.
The old center (Plaka, the foot of the Acropolis, Monastiraki) is the easy answer for a short trip, because the big sights are a walk away. It's also cobbled and busy in the evening, so ask for a quiet room. Book the room before the hotel: a suite, a family room or two rooms with a door between them is what makes it work.
Short on time? A pool in Plaka: Electra Palace. A pool and suites at the foot of the hill: Divani Palace Acropolis. A kitchenette: AVA Hotel & Suites or The Foundry Suites. Cribs and connecting rooms together: Hermes Hotel or The Gem Society Hotel.
How we picked
These are hotels we'd send a friend with kids to. The facts under each one come from its Play Day listing. If a fact is missing, we couldn't confirm it (not that the answer is no), so ask before you book.
We left out one hotel on our listings that told us too little to recommend a room. The sights mentioned are in our Athens itinerary.
Plaka and the foot of the Acropolis
The postcard part of Athens, under the hill. The Acropolis, its museum and the Agora are all a walk from here, and the pedestrian streets are easier with a stroller than the traffic outside them.
Electra Palace Athens
Plaka
A pool in the middle of the old streets, which on a hot afternoon beats any museum. There are connecting rooms, so a family of four or five can have two rooms with a door between.
It's a short walk from the Acropolis Museum and the Agora, so you can come back for a swim and a rest between the morning and the evening.

Divani Palace Acropolis
Makrygianni
A big hotel at the foot of the hill with a pool and suites. It's a short walk from the Acropolis Museum, which makes day one easy.
The listing doesn't say anything about cribs or connecting rooms, so ask before you book.

AVA Hotel & Suites
Plaka
Suites with a kitchenette, and cribs available, in Plaka. That's the combination for a longer stay, or for a kid who needs breakfast at six and a snack at three.
Book a suite by name. The kitchenette is what makes it feel like a home.

- Kitchenette

Hermes Hotel
Plaka
A small hotel with both cribs and connecting rooms, which is rarer than it sounds. If you're traveling with a baby and a big kid, this is the one where you can split up for naps without a corridor between you.
- Cribs
- Yes
- Connecting rooms
- Yes
Plaka Hotel
Plaka
A hotel with connecting rooms in the old streets, so you can have two rooms side by side. The listing says nothing about cribs or a pool, so ask if you need them.
- Connecting rooms
- Yes
Noble Suites
Makrygianni
Suites with cribs, a few minutes from the Acropolis Museum. Day one starts almost at the door, and the suite means the kids aren't sleeping on top of you.
- Cribs
- Yes
- Suites
- Yes
The Athens Gate Hotel
Makrygianni
A hotel with connecting rooms, near the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the National Garden. It's a good spot if you want the gardens and the stadium on your side of town.
The listing doesn't mention cribs or a pool, so check.
- Connecting rooms
- Yes
Syntagma, Monastiraki and Psiri
The busy middle: the Agora, the Museum of Illusions and a lot of places to eat are close. It's lively at night, so ask for a room away from the street.
Electra Metropolis Athens
Syntagma
A pool and connecting rooms, in the middle of everything. Between them, that's a family room with a door and somewhere to swim after the ruins.
- Connecting rooms
- Yes
- Pool
- Yes
Ergon House Athens
Monastiraki
A hotel with connecting rooms by the Agora, with a restaurant on site that shares the building. Easy for a family who'd rather eat at home base on the first night.
- Connecting rooms
- Yes
The Foundry Suites
Psiri
Suites with a kitchenette, a short walk from Monastiraki. The kitchenette is the point: breakfast for kids who won't wait, and milk in the fridge.
It's in a lively part of town, so ask for a quiet suite.

- Yes
- Kitchenette
- Yes
Ivis 4 Boutique Hotel
Psiri
A small boutique hotel with suites, in Psiri. The listing doesn't say anything about cribs, connecting rooms or a pool, so ask before you book. It's a short walk to the Agora and the Museum of Illusions.
- Suites
- Yes
The Gem Society Hotel
North of Monastiraki
Suites, connecting rooms and cribs, all in one hotel. If you're traveling with a baby and an older kid, this is the one that does both.
It's a bit north of the old streets, so it's a walk or a short ride to the Acropolis.

Kolonaki and the Lycabettus slope
The calmer, smarter side of the center, below the hill with the funicular. You give up the walk to the Acropolis and get a quieter evening.
St. George Lycabettus
Kolonaki
The splurge: a pool, suites and connecting rooms in one place, on the slope of Kolonaki. It's a short walk from the funicular, and you're a bit further from the old streets than in Plaka, so it works best if you don't mind a taxi.
The listing doesn't mention cribs, so ask.

North of the center
A little further out, toward Omonia and the National Archaeological Museum. These are practical, not pretty, and the metro is how you get to the sights.
ATHENA Pallas, Grecotel
Omonia area
A hotel with suites and cribs, north of the old center. It's a metro ride to the Acropolis, but the National Archaeological Museum is close, and the suites give you room.
- Cribs
- Yes
- Suites
- Yes
Novotel Athenes
North of the center
A big, easy hotel with a pool, north of the center. It's a ride to the sights, so it's the one for people who want a pool and a straightforward room over a walk to the Acropolis.
The listing doesn't say anything about cribs or connecting rooms, so ask.
- Pool
- Yes
Down the coast
A long way from the sights, and not a base for the city. Pick this only if the beach is the point of the trip.
Palmyra Beach Hotel
The coast, south of the city
A beach hotel with suites and cribs, about a half-hour or more from the center by car, depending on traffic. Think of it as a beach stay with a day trip to the Acropolis, not the other way around.
- Cribs
- Yes
- Suites
- Yes
Pools, and who can use them
Electra Palace, Electra Metropolis, Divani Palace Acropolis, St. George Lycabettus and Novotel Athenes all list a pool. Ask each one when the pool is open and whether there are hours for kids. Pools in the city center are often small and on a roof, so don't expect to swim laps.
No pool at the hotel? A nap in a cool room does the same job on a hot afternoon.
Getting in from the airport
The airport is outside the city, and the metro, the airport bus and taxis all go to the center. A taxi is the easiest with kids and bags. Every hotel in the old center is a short ride from Syntagma.
